About the Rebel Group
Label and Management
The Rebel Group is a New York-based music company dedicated to providing strategic music solutions to artists and labels. The company is fiercely independent- we believe that artistic freedom and commercial savvy can and must coexist. We utilize our three separate divisions - Label & Management, Consulting, and our TV and Film Placement partnership, Rebel Synch - to help independent artists, managers and labels
The company was founded by Thaddeus Rudd in 2003, initially as an artist management firm, representing artists such as Sweden’s Teddybears (Atlantic Records) and the Caesars (EMI/Astralwerks), and US rockers Lucero (Republic/Universal).
As the music business evolved, Rudd saw the playing field leveling, to the point where some acts were succeeding without conventional record labels. With the leveling of the playing field, artists and managers could, under certain conditions, successfully equal record label’s traditional marketing and promotion duties, and own their masters in the process.
As a result, in 2006, The Rebel Group launched a record label, distributed by Warner Music’s ADA Distribution and helmed by the Rebel Group’s Benjamin Losi, helping The Rebel Group clients and other independent artists and their managers to release their records independently.
In addition to releasing and distributing projects by Management clients, The Rebel Group label has released 18 albums to date by buzzing new Alternative bands including Ra Ra Riot, Say Hi, Land of Talk, The Ark, Cloud Cult, The Forms, Loney, Dear and Jukebox the Ghost.
The Rebel Group has allowed new bands to build their audience while owning their masters and keeping their options open for future. The Rebel Group handles manufacturing and distribution, retail marketing and help securing independent press, online and radio services. Successes include Syracuse NY’s Ra Ra Riot, who after releasing their debut EP with the Rebel Group, have has recently signed with Barsuk Records. Similarly, Washington DC’s Jukebox the Ghost recently signed with Stage Three Music for publishing on the strength of their Rebel Group debut. Both Say Hi and Cloud Cult have released breakthrough albums via the Rebel Group, as well as follow-up releases, which are their biggest selling to date.
